Well Christmas 2006 has come and gone. As a mother it is not so much a holiday or day of rest as a chance to watch your children exhaust themselves! The excitement is contagious.
As everyone is consumming an excess of food I realized just how much food my 8 month old son can put away. It reminds me of the panic that is instilled in new mothers about their newborns weight gain. This can so often prompt a lack of confidence in the newly breastfeeding mother that for some reason she will not be able to sustain her baby.
I wish that I could whisper in the ear of every self-doubting mother "There is no need to worry you can do this."
A friend today commented that her ten week old baby has gained so much that soon she won't be able to lift him! The same mother didn't know if she would be able to breastfeed due to a tough start but has never looked back.
